My Passport For Mac Not Mounting

I have a 1TB Seagate (FAT32) and 4TB Seagate (Mac OS Extended), and the 1TB works perfectly fine under USB while my 4TB just shows up in disk utility. I have 2 external drives that do not mount. And my apple usb wired keyboard doesnt work either. My WD external hard drive will not mount and does not show up anywhere. Apr 07, 2017 The WD Passport Ultra was plugged into my MacBook on battery. I was not actively reading or writing to the external hard drive, but it did have a list of directories open (no individual photo files, but just the directory names). The battery ran out. When I charged up my Mac again it says that the disk was not ejected properly. Shutdown your Mac, unplug it if it is a desktop. Unplug the WD Passport. Boot it up and then plug in the drive. If it still won't mount, then reboot but do CMD+OPT+P+R to reset PRAM. Try mounting again.

How To Use My Passport For Mac

Mounting

  1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities' folder.
  2. After Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry with 1TB WD Passport...) from the side list.
  3. Click on the Erase tab in the Disk Utility toolbar. A panel should drop down.
  4. In the drop down panel set the partition scheme to GUID. Set the Format type to APFS (SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  5. Click on the Apply button and click on the Done button when it is activated.
  6. Quit Disk Utility.

My mom ripped out my WD 2TB My Passport drive from her machine and now it’s not mounting on either of our Macs. Shows up in System Information as well as diskutil list on Terminal. The WD Passport for Mac is one of several drives that I use for backup on my MacBook Pro, so I do not need to. Recover any information on it. In fact I think I've now wiped it. I'm not sure because it will not mount on my desktop - however, I can see it with Disk Utilities. I have tried to format it. I have tried to repair it. I have tried to.

Hello there!

I have a 2TB WD My Passport for Mac that I use as the Time Machine for my mid-2010 13-inch MacBook Pro. I also use it as a portable external hard drive to store other important files and my iTunes library. It has stopped mounting. Also, when I start up Disk Utility, it takes a long time to appear on the list on the left hand side and when it does and I attempt to use First Aid, it fails and gives the following text:

Repairing file system.
Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
Invalid extent entry
The volume could not be verified completely.
File system check exit code is 8.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
File system verify or repair failed.
Operation failed…

Is there some way I can repair the hard drive and avoid losing all my data?

How To Mount My Passport For Mac

I have had the hard drive for a couple of years and it has always worked perfectly. It is also used as the Time Machine for my girlfriend’s 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro and the problem started when I tried to do a Time Machine backup on her computer this morning. It was preparing the backup for some time because it had been a while since it had been backed up. While it was doing this, her Mac “Restarted because of problem” and since then the my hard drive that was connected has the problems above. I can only assume that the problem that caused her Mac to restart also corrupted my hard drive somehow.
